Sometimes, I go to Estate Sales.
It's by far my favorite way to hunt for new items. A couple of months ago, I had the privilege of going to the estate sale of a woman by the name of Camilla Holiday. What a gorgeous name. I found a treasure trove of wonderful clothing tucked away in her garage, complete with the original 1960s dry cleaning hangers. Fun, leisurely, fruitful.
Sometimes, I go to Garage Sales.
I've found I always have the best luck when going to garage sales where you can't *see* any clothing from the street -- this usually doesn't mean that they have no clothes -- it means they're not particularly driven by the thought of selling clothing, and therefore aren't going to charge much for it. It's a great adventure for a sunny Saturday morning.
Sometimes, I Thrift.
Thrifting is not for the faint of heart. There are rows upon rows of chaff to sift through (most of it smelling like camphor, cedar, moth balls and grandmas), and if not careful, one can go absolutely cross-eyed within minutes. However, treasured finds are still highly likely to surface with patience, tenacity and some good old-fashioned elbow grease. It's like an unusually productive low-impact workout. :)
And then, sometimes, I brave The Pile Sale.
Ah, The Pile Sale. A 7 foot tall, 15 foot wide precarious pile of clothing just waiting to be harvested. In lieu of attempting to describe it, I've provided a picture below:
...yes, that IS me perched atop a gargantuan pile of vintage-y goodness!
THIS is how much I love my job. Every day is a treasure hunt... only it's YOU who gets the treasure! :)
vin.tage (vin-tij) 1. representing the high quality of a past time. ves.tige (ves-tij) 1. a mark, trace, or visible evidence of something that is no longer present or in existence.

Ah, V-Day. Red hearts and roses. Dinner and a movie. ::blaargh:: Quite predictable, no? How can we flex our creative muscles and come up with some other non-overdone or overpriced way to make things special for our significant others on this "lame-but-I-kinda-HAVE-to-participate" holiday??
I want to hear your input, suggestions, comments, complaints -- whatever you've got! This topic is open to both genders, so please don't be shy!

WTF moment of the day: What IS this??
Generally, I'm an avid supporter of vintage, thrift, second-hand salvaging, whatever you'd prefer to call it. That being said, every once in a very rare while I do become perplexed by someone's over-zealous, misguided attempts at "re-purposing."
WHYYY??
Le sigh. ::shakes head::
Thoughts, anyone?

excited for things to come.
Scarcity facilitates necessity, which is why 'limited edition' products can be sold for such exorbitant amounts of money. At the moment, though, I daresay I'd be able to begin to put a price on the sleep which is so unfortunately scarce and veritably unattainable, yet so desperately needed... if only for the preservation of my sanity and nothing more. (random, tangential side note: why do 'priceless' and 'worthless' hold such entirely different connotations?)
Tomorrow is filled to capacity with errands and chores -- my dear sissy arrives tomorrow night from Portland to visit for the weekend for our dad's/my mister's birthdays (which happen to fall on the same day, some 35-ish years or so apart) and I refuse to spend the fleeting time she'll be in town neck deep in second-hand clothing and giant plastic craft storage bins. It's been *ages* since I've seen her -- about a year and a half, I think? Either way, it's simply been too LONG. I can't wait for her to get here.
I purchased a new Dremel tool today -- I've got a few fun vintage/re-purposing projects up my sleeve, and am very eager to get things moving in a forward direction -- coming soon, for your consumption! Soon enough, AVV will branch out from simply the 'clothing' category in search of new horizons, so keep an interweb-eye peeled for that!
::sigh:: but for now, I'm going to try wishing myself to sleep.
bonne nuit, mes cheries.
